for one day , two day , three day …. 15 day
Long term training may be
extended up to months or years as master’s program in nursing.
Based on objective-
It may be orientation
training, skill training, higher education training, leadership and management training
etc.
Based upon method it may be
lecture, demonstration, symposium, workshop and e-learning.
lecture
A lecture word is taken from the
French lecture, meaning reading, is an
oral intended to present information or teach people about a
particular subject, for example by a teacher.
Lectures are used to convey critical information, history, background,
theories, and equations. A politician's speech or even a businessman's sales
presentation may be similar in form to a lecture. Usually the lecturer will
stand at the front of audience in a room and recite information relevant to the
lecture's content.
Some advantages of
lecturing include: quick exposure to new material, greater teacher control in
the classroom, an engaging format, which may complement and clarify course
material, and facilitating large-class communication. Lecturing also
permits the dissemination of unpublished or not readily available material.
The lecture method can be
made more effective when used with suitable audio visual aids. Disadvantages of
lecture include: placing students in a passive role, encouraging one-way
communication.
demonstration
A demonstration is the process of
teaching someone how to make or do something in a step-by-step process. In
demonstration you show how and you “tell” what you are doing. This method is
used for skill training and is very effective.
Demonstrations are used
frequently in the clinical setting, often without advance preparation.
Obviously, the more familiar the demonstrator is with the equipment and the
nursing procedure being taught, the better the demonstration will be. This is
also true of demonstrations presented in a more formal way, as in the
classroom.
It has the advantage
of using visual as well as oral perceptions, thus facilitating learning. Other
senses may also be used, such as smell or touch. Although some nursing
procedures can be taught by simulation, others are best taught with a patient;
for example, tracheostomy care or irrigation of a colostomy.
Symposium - Symposium is
a discussion method in which different view points on a single aspect of a
topic is discussed. Symposium is a series of speeches on single aspect of a
topic. Symposium provides a broad understanding of a topic or problem
Symposium techniques has a series of speaches
where two or more speakers talk for 10-20 minutes, develop individual
approaches or solutions to a present aspects of a policy, process or programme.
At the end audience may ask questions. the
chairman makes a summary of the symposium.
Workshop
The workshop method helps the
instructor create an environment in which the learner is more likely to be
involved and motivated. The workshop
method focuses on participatory, hands-on practice and skill
learning.
A workshop is an informative
or instructional class focused on teaching specialized skills or exploring a
particular subject. Workshop presenters are usually educators, subject matter
experts, managers or other leaders who possess knowledge of a particular
subject or mastery of specific skills. Depending on the topic, workshops may be
only one or two hours in length or extend across weeks of time.
E learning;
eLearning is learning by utilizing electronic technologies to access
educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom. In most cases, it
refers to a course, program or degree delivered completely online. After completeion of training
a certificate is also issued.
It is a very efficient way
of delivering courses online.
Due to its convenience
and flexibility, the resources are available from anywhere and at any time.
