TRANSPORTAION OF CLIENT DURING FIRST AID

     The process of moving an injured person to a     hospital or other treatment center, after first aid in known as transportation of the injured person. The patient should be moved by properly traind support personnel with equipment to stabilize    vital organs and prevent further injury.

Principles of transportation of the injured person

1.                       The position assumed by the casualty or in which he has been placed, should not

be disturbed unnecessarily.

2.                       Throughout the transport a careful watch must be kept on the general condition of the casualty (breathing, consciousness) ,any dressing that may have been applied, any recurrence of haemorrhage, and any signs of changes or worsening of the casualty’s condition.

3.                       The transport must be safe, steady and speedy.

4.                       Never move the injured unless it is absolutely necessary and till medical assistance arrives.

5.                       Explain the victim about the actions you are doing so that you may get cooperation from him.

6.                       Use proper body mechanics while lifting the victim to prevent injury to yourself.

7.                       Take help from bystanders to move the client.

8.                       There should be only one leader of command and others should follow him.

9.                       Try to transport the victim to the hospital as early as possible.

Methods of transportation of the injured person

Ø Humen lift and carries

Ø Carry by chair

Ø Carry by stretchers

Ø Airlift, air ambulance

Ø Land ambulance

Ø Water – boat ambulance.

 

Human lift and carries

Ø Lift and carry by one first aider.

Ø Cradle method -this method is used for children or light weight patients. Hold the client as shown in picture and carry.

Ø human crutch-this method is used for conscious victim who can walk with help. Hold the client as shown in picture and walk with the client.

Ø Drag method -this method is used for unconscious victim. Hold the client as shown in picture and and drag.

Ø Pick a back-this method is used for  conscious and light weight victim. Hold the client as shown in picture and and carry.

Ø Fireman’s lift and carry -this method is used for  heavy weight victim as weight is on shoulder. Hold the client as shown in picture and carry.

Ø Lift and carry by two first aiders.

Ø Human crutch method – this method is used for a conscious client. In this method two first aiders  Hold the client as shown in picture and carry.

Ø Two handed seat method – this method is used for a conscious client but unable to assist the first aider. In this method two first aiders  Hold the client as shown in picture and carry.

Ø Four handed seat method – this method is used for a conscious client. In this method two first aiders  Hold the client as shown in picture and carry.

Ø Fore and aft method – this method is used for a conscious client. In this method two first aiders  Hold the client as shown in picture and carry.

Ø Carry by chair method.

Ø This method is used when the patient is conscious and chair is available. Two first aider hold the chair as shown in picture and carry.

Ø Carry by stretcher method.

Ø Stretchers can be made of wood metal or canvas. Patient lie on the stretcher and carried as shown in the picture. To shift the client to stretcher we can use three person method or blanket method.

Ø Carry by air ambulance method.

Ø This is fastest method of transporting the patient to super-specility hospital.

Ø Carry by road ambulance method.

Ø This is main method of transporting the patient to hospital.

Ø Carry by boat ambulance method.

Ø This is a good method of transporting the patient to hospital in the areas where waterways are available.
