ASSESSMENT OF WEIGHT OF A CHILD
TITLE
OF THE PROCEDURE-
•
Assessment
of weight of a child or an infant.
•
This
procedure is to be done under practical examination of child health nursing. We
need to measure weight in OPD, in wards or in community during home visits. We
measure weight with the help of different types of weighing scales
PREPARATION
OF ARTICLES-

Weighing
scales
•
And a tray of articles
•
The
procedure tray should contain -
•
Spring
weighing scale
•
Pen
•
News
paper or disposal sheet
•
Diary
•
Toy
( to divert attention of the baby )
PREPARATION
OF THE CHILD AND PARENTS-
•
Explain
the procedure and objectives of the procedure to parents.
•
Ask
mother to clean the baby and change diaper if needed.
Steps
of Procedure for weight of a child
•
Remove
error from the weighing scale by moving the adjustment button and make 0 at
starting point .
•
Ask mother to remove extra clothes from the
baby
•
Ask
the child to remove shoes and climb up on weighing scale
•
Check
the reading at eye level and write down in the diary.
•
Ask
mother to take the baby to his room
•
Remove
articles and place to their proper place after cleaning.
•
If
the child is not cooperative than we ask mother to take baby in her lap and
climb on the scale after removing shoes and write down combined weight.
•
Than
we take weight of mother alone.
•
By
subtracting alone weight from combined weight we can find weight of the baby.
Steps

•
Spread a newpaper or disposal sheet on the
pediatric weighing scale
•
Remove
error from the pediatric weighing scale by moving the adjustment button and
make 0 at starting point .
•
Ask
mother to remove extra clothes from the baby
•
Place
the infant on pediatric weighing scale keeping a hand on the infant to support.
•
Just
remove the hand from baby and check the reading.
•
Check
the reading at eye level and write down in the diary.
•
Ask
mother to take the baby to his room
•
Remove
articles and place to their proper place after cleaning.
