The National Health Policy, 2017 recommended
strengthening the delivery of primary health care, through establishment of
"Health and Wellness Centres" as the platform to deliver
comprehensive primary health care
·
Ayushman Bharat or "Healthy India" national
initiative and was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017,
to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
·
AyushmanBharat is an attempt to move from sectoral and
segmented approach of health service delivery to a comprehensive need-based
health care service. Ayushman Bharat aims to undertake path breaking
interventions to holistically address health (covering prevention, promotion
and ambulatory care), at primary, secondary and tertiary level.

Ayushman Bharat adopts a continuum of care approach,
comprising of two inter-related components, which are -
o Establishment
of Health and Wellness Centres
o Pradhan Mantri
Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)

In February 2018, the Government of India's announced
the creation of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) by transforming
existing Sub Centres and Primary Health Centres as the base pillar of Ayushman
Bharat. These centres would deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC)

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER-

First Health and Wellness Centre was inaugurated on April 14, 2018.
·
It is located in Jangla, which is in the Bijapur
district of Chhattisgarh. Jungla subcenter was upgraede to Health and
Wellness Centre
·
The AB-HWCs at the Sub Health Centre (SHC) level would
be equipped and staffed by an appropriately trained Primary Health Care team
led by a Community Health Officer (CHO) ANM,MPW & ASHAs.
·
• Rebranding was done in Nov 2023 and HWC is renamed
as Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM).
·
• Tagline is Arogyam Parmam Dhanam' (Health is the
Greatest Wealth).
·
• Main Objective of establishing hcw/aam is to Move
from 'Sick-care' to 'Wellness-care' by providing Comprehensive Primary Health
Care (CPHC).
·
PHYSHICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
·
• Rural (AAM-SC): Existing Sub-Centres upgraded with
waiting areas, exam rooms, and wellness/yoga space.
·
• Urban (AAM-UPHC): Upgraded UPHCs with integrated lab
services and NCD clinics.

• IT Support: Equipped with tablets/laptops for
'e-Sanjeevani' Teleconsultation.
·
• Branding: Uniform color-coding (Yellow/Orange) and
logo across India.

• Diagnostics: Free essential medicines and diagnostic
tests (14+ in SC, 63+ in PHC).
·
• Teleconsultation: Connecting patients to specialists
via e-Sanjeevani portal.
