to make decisions. Information involves the communication and reception of
intelligence or knowledge
Information system-
• Information
system is a set of series of events or activities to provide processed data to
the individual managers at various levels of functional areas. The term
information system usually refers to computer based information system within
the organization.
MIES-
• Management
information and evaluation system is a set of series of events or activities
through which the data are processed into information and available to the
individual managers at various levels of functional areas for information and
evaluation of the services.
Characteristics of MIES-
• Information
system collect, record, store, process and retrieve data as per the need of
users.
• Information
system is designed specifically for different levels of management.
• Information
system involves latest information technology for communication such as user of
computers and internet.
• Information
system is integrated by different ways of databases
Components of MIES-
Hardware-
Hardware include the equipments and dvices which are used for
input and output activities as well as processing. It includes computer system
including printer and scanner.
Software-
Software is the set of a computer program which facilitates
the processing of data. Software includes system software, application software
and model base
Database-
The set of information to be stored in storage media.
Procedures-
The operating procedure documents such as operating manuals,
system manuals, user manuals etc.
Operating personnel-
The trained person to operate these systems are also needed
in management information system such as system managers, system analysts, data
administrators, programmers and data entry operators.
Objectives of MIES

HMIS-
• HMIS means
Health Management Information System or Hospital Management Information System,
depending on context. It is a digital framework used to collect, store,
analyze, and manage health-related or hospital operational data to improve
decision-making, efficiency, and patient care.

Main features of HMIS include-
Data Collection & Storage: Patient
records, service utilization, disease surveillance.
Analytics & Reporting: Generates dashboards and
reports for decision-makers..
Resource Management: Tracks staff, equipment, and
medicine availability.

management, employees, and clients.
Automation: Reduces manual errors in routine
operations.
Types of HMIS (modules of HMIS)
• Admission,
discharge and transmission of patients.
• Accounting
billing or financial system.
• Order entry
like pathological tests for the patient
• Ancillary
system for labs reports and other therapies
• Clinical documentation system which includes doctors orders regarding treatment and nursing information system. Nurses notes, nursing process, nursing services provided and evaluation, intake output charting etc are recorded through this system
