MOTIVATION
IN ENGLISH
· Motivation is the force that determine the activity
and behavior of an individual. It directs the individual to act in positive
direction. Motivation is influenced by need, basic drives interest , likes and
dislikes of the person. Motivation is essential for overall development of a
person.
· Motivation is internal feeling generated within the
individual to perform at his best possible level .
· Motivation can make the people work in right direction
and in positive way as desired by the motivator
· It is an art of getting things done willing from
others

1.
Physiological
motives- Physiological
motives are also called as biological drives or organic needs. These are basic
needs and due to these drives, tension is produced in our body. To relieve the
tension a person need to perform some specific activity.
These biological drives
includes- thurst, oxygen, hunger, rest and sleep, sex, pain relief and
elimination needs
These drives are very strong
motives and the person do his best to fulfil these drives. Being a nurse we
should recognize all these basic drives and try to fulfil these need during
hospital stay.
2.
Social motives- Social motives starts during
socialization process of a person. Under this drive the person seeks acceptance
form a social group. Motivated by this drive the person participates in social
activities. This motive encourages us to learn social codes of behaviour so
that we can behave in a socially accepted manner.
Social
motives motivates us to learn new skills so that society recognizes and
respects us. Influenced by this motive
we take part in competitions and have strong desire to win.
Social
motives motivates us to fulfil the desire of having prestige and power. This
desire show the tendency to collect, acquire and possess something more than
others.

Personal motives- Personal motives consists of
our vocational ambitions and personal development. Our life goals , our
specific habits, attitude and personality development is affected by this
drive. This is the motive which arouse the desire to become a doctor, engineer
or other professional.
Personal
motives motivates us to work towards fulfilling our professional aims. We pay
more attention to our personal development and personal habits which affect our
behaviour.

Unconscious motives - Unconscious
Motives refers to hidden and unknown desires that are the real reasons for
things that people do. These are the motives of which we are not aware. They
are in the form of our repressed desires or wishes. Unconscious motivation
plays a prominent role in Sigmund Freud's theories of human behavior.
Freud believed that the human mind consists of a tiny,
conscious part that is available for direct observation and a much larger
subconscious portion that plays an even more important role in determining
behavior.
Some of our slip of tongue, slip of pen , irrational
fear, phobias, dislikes which we cannot explain are examples of unconscious
behavior powered by unconscious motives.
