TITLE OF THE PROCEDURE-

•        Skin care or buttock care of an infant.

•        This procedure is to be done under practical examination of child health nursing. This procedure help to maintain skin of baby healthy specially around perineal area and buttocks.

PREPARATION OF ARTICLES-

•        The procedure tray should contain -

•        2 Bowl with plane and soapy water

•        1 Bowl with cotton swabs

•        Kidney tray

•        Paper bag

•        Toy ( to divert attention of the baby )

•        Towel

•        Mackintosh with draw sheet

•        Gloves 1 pair

•        Talcum powder or emollient cream

•        Additional items includes -

•        Nappy or disposal diaper

•        1 set of clean clothes

•        Screen ( to provide privacy)

•        Pen and dairy

 PREPARATION OF CHILD/PARENTS-

•        Explain the procedure and objectives of the procedure to parents.

•        Explain parents to learn this procedure as it is very effective in preventing nappy rashes and keep skin clean and healthy

STEPS OF PROCEDURE-

•        Provide privacy using screens.

•        Spread mackintosh and draw sheet on bed or any other working area.

•        Ask mother to place baby on draw sheet

•        Give toy to divert the attention of baby

•        Wash hands and wear gloves before starting procedure

•        Untie and remove nappy and place it in kidney tray

•        Hold the baby’s feet and clean buttocks using cotton swabs

•        First of all clean perineal area using wet swab to clean any fecal matter.

•        Use strocks from front to back only and one swab for one strock.

•        Than use soapy water swab to clean the perineal area using strocks from front to back.

•         Now again clean perineal area using plane wet swab .

•        After proper cleaning tap the area to dry using soft cotton towel

•         apply powder or emollient cream depending upon skin  and weather condition.

•        Use fresh nappy and clean clothes to make the baby well dressed.

•        Ask mother to take the baby to the ward or unit.

•        Replace all the articles to utility room

•        Record the procedure in nurses notes.
