MUMMIFICATION-

TITLE OF THE PROCEDURE-

•        Applying a mummy restraint or mummification.

•        This procedure is to be done under practical examination of child health nursing. This procedure help to maintain safety of the child and restrict unnecessary movement 

 PREPARATION OF ARTICLES-

•        Cotton sheet of appropriate size

•        Mackintosh with draw sheet

 PREPARATION OF CHILD/PARENTS-

•        Explain the procedure and objectives of the procedure to parents.

•        Explain parents that mummification is a system to keep the baby safe, it restrict unnecessary movement during a procedure and also prevent risk of falling from bed.  

 STEPS OF PROCEDURE-

1.     Spread mackintosh and draw sheet on bed or any other working area.

2.    Place cotton sheet diagonally after making a square of the sheet

3.    Fold the upper corner back on sheet as shown in the picture.

4.    Place the baby on sheet in such a way that folded portion reaches up shoulder of the baby.

5.    Fold the left end of sheet over left side of the baby and under right arm as shown in the picture. Extra sheet should be tucked under the body of the baby.  

 

6.    Fold the lower end of sheet over baby towards right shoulder as shown in the picture. 

7.    Remove all wrinkles from the sheet .

8.    Fold the right end of sheet over the baby and tuck under the body of baby as shown in the picture. 

9.    final look of the mummified baby should be as shown in picture.

10. Hand over the mummified baby to the mother
