TITLE
OF THE PROCEDURE-
•
Assessment
of Height of a child or length of an infant.
•
This
procedure is to be done under practical examination of child health nursing.
Normally we measure length of an infant (up to 1 year of age ) and height there
after.
PREPARATION
OF ARTICLES-
•
Infantometer
•
Stadiometer
•
And
a tray of articles
•
The
procedure tray should contain -
•
Tape
measure
•
Cardboard/scale
•
Pen
•
Diary
•
Toy
( to divert attention of the baby )
•
PREPARATION
OF THE CHILD AND PARENTS-
•
Explain
the procedure and objectives of the procedure to parents.
•
Ask
mother to clean the baby and change diaper if needed.
Steps
of Procedure for length
•
Head
board of the infantometer is fix and foot board is movable
•
Keep
the infantometer fully open.
•
Place
the baby on infantometer in supine position with head touching the head board
as shown in the picture.
•
Ask
mother to hold the head of baby against the head board.
•
Keep
the feet of baby flat and move the footboard against them.
•
Now
take reading while keeping eyes at 90 degree.
•
Ask
mother to take baby away from the infantometer .
•
Note
the reading in diary.
•
Ask
mother to take baby to his room.
•
Replace
articles after cleaning.
Steps
of Procedure for length if infantometer not available such as during home
visits
•
Spread
a newspaper on table which is kept against the wall.
•
Place
the baby on this newspaper in supine position.
•
Ask
the mother to hold the head of baby against the wall.
•
Place
the cardboard against flat feet and mark with pencil on newspaper.
•
Measure
the length using tape measure and not down.
Steps
of Procedure for height
•
Ask
baby to stand on stadiometer without shoes.
•
Instruct
the baby to stand eract and keep head straight.
•
Ask
mother to hold the baby in position it baby is not cooperative or not able to
understand commonds.
•
Down
the head board till it touches head of the baby as shown in the picture.
•
Note
down the reading.
•
Ask
mother to take baby to his room.
•
Replace
the articles to their proper place
Steps

•
Ask
the baby to stand against wall without shoes.
•
Place
scale or cardboard on head of the baby and against the wall
•
Mark
with pencil on the wall
•
Now
measure the height of this mark from ground and note down.
